Darryl Sittler and Toronto Maple Leafs head coach are now tied to an off-ice story after a break-in targeting a rare piece of franchise history.

This isn't a rink story. It's a crime scene.
RCMP confirmed they're investigating the theft of NHL memorabilia from a hardware store in Bay Roberts late Thursday night.
The incident happened around 9:30 PM, when a suspect smashed the front glass and went straight for a Darryl Sittler commemorative plaque.
It wasn't random. The person knew what they were after.
Surveillance footage shows the suspect with their face covered, wearing a toque, grey sweater, blue jeans, and brown boots.
Police say the individual moved quickly, in and out within moments.

A targeted grab tied to Leafs history

Sittler isn't just another former player. He's one of the most respected names tied to the Toronto Maple Leafs.
That plaque carries weight far beyond its material value.
Collectors and fans know exactly what something like that represents-legacy, records, and a direct link to one of the franchise's defining eras.
That's why investigators are treating this as a focused theft, not a random smash-and-grab.
The way the suspect ignored everything else in the store raises questions about intent.
RCMP are now asking for public help, urging anyone with information to step forward.
They've provided a direct line and are also working with Crime Stoppers.
For Leafs fans, this hits a different nerve. It's not about standings or line combinations.
It's about history being pulled off a wall and disappearing into the dark.
And if that plaque resurfaces, it won't be subtle. Pieces tied to Sittler don't stay hidden for long in hockey circles.
This case now shifts from a local break-in to something that could ripple across the memorabilia market.
Because when a name like Darryl Sittler shows up in a police report, people pay attention.
