During Saturday night's Battle of Ontario between the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs, tensions ran high on the ice. In spite of the fact that the teams won't face each other again in the regular season, both sides are actively stoking the flames of this rivalry.
Here is the play that started it all:
Ottawa Senators Troll The Toronto Maple Leafs On Social Media
Toronto Maple Leafs head coach Sheldon Keefe added fuel to the fire by supporting defenseman Morgan Rielly's actions, which have now resulted in a significant suspension.
However, on Sunday morning, the Senators retaliated.
The Sens not only responded to the Leafs but also involved one of their sponsors by awarding forward Ridly Greig the "Performer of the Game" award for his last-minute slap shot into the empty Leafs net.
This move by the Senators is clearly an attempt at trolling, and it's likely to further intensify this already heated rivalry.
