Teemu Selanne, one of the greatest goal scorers in NHL history, recently shared an amusing story on the Spittin' Chiclets Podcast about his time with the Winnipeg Jets and former GM Mike Smith.
During his time in Winnipeg, Selanne had an incredible run, but not everything was smooth for the Finnish star. Selanne recounted a story where, despite having 47 goals in the season, GM Mike Smith tried to "motivate" him after a two-game scoreless streak by threatening to send him to the Jets' farm team in Moncton.
According to Selanne, Smith even approached his girlfriend in public, asking her if she knew where Moncton was, reiterating the same threat.
Despite this odd form of motivation, Selanne went on to score seven goals in his next few games, continuing his incredible season. While Selanne doesn't credit Smith's threat for his success, he believes the GM might have given himself credit for the results.
