Bronson Ride lands an NHL contract after Vegas Golden Knights head coach Bruce Cassidy watched the 6-foot-7 defenseman impress during camp looks in the organization.
The Vegas Golden Knights quietly added size to their blue line pipeline Sunday, signing undrafted defenseman Bronson Ride to a three-year entry-level contract.
Ride isn't a flashy puck mover. He's a towering stay-at-home defender whose reach alone closes space along the boards and in front of the crease.
At 6-foot-7 and 212 pounds, the Toronto native brings the type of frame NHL teams still value when games tighten up late in the season and in the playoffs.
Vegas first got a closer look at Ride during Development Camp and Rookie Camp this year, where the coaching staff saw enough to keep tabs on the big defender.
Those camps often turn into extended job interviews. Ride used the opportunity to show he could handle pro pace and hold the blue line against quicker forwards.
Golden Knights add massive defensive project
Ride spent the last two seasons in the OHL with the North Bay Battalion, a defensive-minded program that asks its blue liners to protect the slot first.
During the 2024-25 season he appeared in 68 games and produced 13 points while playing heavy defensive minutes.
This season he added 21 points in 57 games, showing modest offensive growth while keeping his main focus on shutdown work and penalty-killing duties.
For Vegas, the signing is less about immediate help and more about organizational depth. Big right-shot defenders with reach like this rarely go ignored once they develop.
Cassidy has consistently leaned on structure and defensive reliability since arriving in Vegas, and Ride's profile fits that mold if his development continues.
The Golden Knights currently sit second in the Pacific Division with 74 points, and management continues to build layers behind the NHL roster.
Ride will almost certainly begin his pro career in the American Hockey League, where the focus will be skating, puck management, and adapting to faster forechecks.
But size like this gets noticed quickly. If his defensive reads translate and the mobility keeps improving, Vegas may have found a long-term depth piece on the blue line.
