Turning 40 doesn't mean it's time to retire, and Valtteri Filppula is proving that by signing with Jokerit Mestis in Finland for next year.

After his playing days, he's expected to take on another role with the team, potentially as a co-owner.
Filppula has a history with Jokerit, having played there before his NHL career. In North America, he suited up for Detroit, Tampa Bay, Philadelphia, and the New York Islanders over 16 seasons and more than 1,000 games. He scored 197 goals and 530 points during his NHL career, which ended with the Red Wings in the 2020-21 season.
Filppula is a member of the exclusive "triple gold" club, having won the Stanley Cup, Olympic gold medal, and world championship-making him the first Finnish player to achieve this.
His last stint in Finland was during the 2012-13 NHL lockout, when he scored six goals and 15 points in 16 games.
We wish Valtteri all the best in the upcoming hockey season.
