Yanni Gourde and Brady Tkachuk clashed hard as the head coach watched tensions boil over in a 4-2 Lightning win Saturday.

This wasn't just another Atlantic Division game. It felt like a playoff night from puck drop.
The Ottawa Senators jumped early, grabbing a 2-0 lead before things tilted. But the temperature rose long before the comeback.
Midway through the game, Brady Tkachuk got under Yanni Gourde's skin after a whistle. A shove from behind turned into something more.
Gourde spun and delivered a rare open-hand slap right across Tkachuk's face. Gloves stayed on. Message sent.
The Senators captain snapped his head sideways, then immediately looked for more. The benches were already buzzing.

Lightning turn moment into momentum

Tampa Bay didn't just respond physically. They flipped the game.
Brandon Hagel cut the deficit to 2-1, and suddenly the Lightning had life. The Senators started chasing instead of dictating.
Moments later, Charles-Edouard D'Astous tied it 2-2. Ottawa's early push was gone, replaced by scrambles in their own zone.
Then came Emil Lilleberg, jumping into the play to make it 3-2. That's depth scoring from the blue line at the right time.
Jake Guentzel sealed it late in the third, pushing it to 4-2 and quieting the building.
Ottawa finished with 28 shots, but couldn't regain control after that second-period swing. Tampa Bay stayed composed when it mattered.
The physical edge never left. Hits were tight, sticks were active, and every whistle brought extra traffic.
But that Gourde-Tkachuk moment stood out. Not because of the slap itself-but because of what followed.
Tampa Bay leaned into it. Ottawa lost structure.
If these teams meet again in the postseason, this won't be forgotten. Not by the players. Not by the benches.
And definitely not by Brady Tkachuk.
