Boston Bruins star Brad Marchand had some positive words about the playoff series against the Toronto Maple Leafs.
In a surprising change of tone, Marchand praised the Maple Leafs new style of play, highlighting their physicality, commitment to forechecking, and defensive tightness. He acknowledged their status as a top team and emphasized the challenge they pose, especially with their offensive prowess.
"They're playing a really good, playoff-type game right now," he said Tuesday. "You knew they would. They're built different than in the past years. They're playing a lot more physical, very committed to forechecking, playing very tight defensively. So, you've got to give them credit. They're one of the top teams for a reason. And then when you add their offensive ability on top of that, they're a tough team to play right now.

Marchand's comments were seen as a significant compliment to Maple Leafs GM Brad Treliving and head coach Sheldon Keefe for transforming their team's playing style. Despite praising the Maple Leafs, Marchand quickly redirected focus to his own team, acknowledging they have room for improvement and need to put forth a better effort.
"We can be better for sure. ... We can definitely prove our game and put a better showing out there," he said.
Following a strong performance by the Maple Leafs in game two, highlighted by a goal from superstar Auston Matthews, they've positioned themselves well in the series, which now stands at 1-1.
