Elias Lindholm has reportedly been on the trade block for months now. Today we got an update on one of the teams that could be a favorite to land him.
Lindholm Still Without An Extension
Elias Lindholm is in the last year of his contract with the Calgary Flames. During this past offseason reports had indicated that extension talks were underway. Now we are well into December and no extension has been signed.
Now that Lindholm is close to free agency and the Flames are playing poorly many believe he will not re-sign in Calgary.
If Lindholm won't be re-signing then the next logical step is to trade away Lindholm for as much value as the Flames can get. On this front NHL insider Elliotte Friedman has linked Lindholm to a Stanley Cup contender.
Friedman Links Lindholm To Cup Contender
During his 32 Thoughts Podcast, Elliotte Friedman talked about Elias Lindholm. Friedman knows several teams are calling on Lindholm that are considered contending. One team in particular he has heard rumblings of is the Colorado Avalanche.
Friedman on 32TP: «There isn't a contender in the league who isn't trying to figure out what the Avalanche are up to, I know some people suspect (Elias) Lindholm, but they're not the only ones, but I know some people suspect that's one of the guys that they're eyeing»
With such a strong potential market for Lindholm and a growing sense he will not be coming back to Calgary, a trade could be coming soon. As the trade deadline draws closer rumors and reports will likely pick up adding more suitors to the list.
