The Montreal Canadiens and St. Louis Blues are once again at the center of major NHL trade rumors, with Jordan Kyrou and salary cap maneuvering driving serious speculation.

Kent Hughes and Doug Armstrong have been negotiating quietly for months.
Around the league, executives believe both general managers want to pull off something significant before March 6.
Last July, Jordan Kyrou was reportedly very close to becoming a Canadien.
The deal collapsed late, but Hughes and Armstrong still completed a separate trade involving Logan Mailloux and Zachary Bolduc.
That history matters because it shows real dialogue exists between these two front offices. When they engage, it is rarely just surface level conversation.

Jordan Kyrou rumors intensify between Montreal Canadiens and St. Louis Blues

Kyrou's name continues to be heavily linked to Montreal, and more recently Robert Thomas has surfaced in discussions.
Even Jordan Binnington has surprisingly been mentioned as a possible target for the Canadiens.
Meanwhile, Doug Armstrong recently placed Mathieu Joseph on waivers, a clear sign he wants financial flexibility.
But for Joseph, it's more related to Dylan Holloway's return.
The Blues are near the bottom of the standings and enduring a very difficult season.
Patrik Laine would not change that reality in St. Louis.
If Armstrong agrees to take on Laine's 8.7 million dollar expiring contract, it would almost certainly be to help Montreal clear cap space, not to spark a turnaround.
That scenario suggests the Blues would demand meaningful assets in return.
It feels unrealistic that Kyrou, Thomas, and Binnington would all head to Montreal, but a combination like Kyrou and Binnington cannot be dismissed outright.
Montreal's prospect pool offers intriguing possibilities, including Oliver Kapanen, Alexander Zharovsky, Michael Hage, Bryce Pickford, Adam Engstrom, and David Reinbacher.
Those names represent legitimate building blocks who could headline a major package.
On the roster side, players such as Kirby Dach, Patrik Laine, Arber Xhekaj, and Josh Anderson could also be involved to balance contracts or reshape the core.
Combined with draft picks, Hughes has multiple pathways to construct a compelling offer.
Hughes has shown patience in previous negotiations, but the opportunity to add elite talent in its competitive window could accelerate talks.
Montreal is trending upward this season, which changes the equation entirely.
If you are looking for a potential blockbuster before March 6, keep a close eye on these two franchises.
When cap space, ambition, and long running talks collide, fireworks are never far away.
