Utah Hockey Club is facing a tough situation on defense after two key players suffered serious injuries which could lead to a trade with the Toronto Maple Leafs.

Last week defenseman Sean Durzi was injured & has now undergone shoulder surgery. He is expected to be out for 4 to 6 months with a return likely around the end of the regular season in 2025. In addition defenseman John Marino is also sidelined for about 3 to 4 months after back surgery. Both players were crucial to the team's defense especially Durzi who had a standout season last year with 41 points.
To fill these gaps Utah has called up 2022 first round pick Maveric Lamoureux. However if the team wants to stay competitive & make a playoff push in their inaugural season they'll need to strengthen their blueline. This has led to speculation about a potential trade for Toronto Maple Leafs defenseman Timothy Liljegren who has already been involved in trade rumors this season.
Liljegren could be a great fit for Utah as he's a right shot defenseman who can run a powerplay similar to Durzi. Both players have comparable skill sets making Liljegren a natural replacement.
It remains to be seen if Utah will make a bold move so early in their existence but they are definitely a team to watch in the trade market.
