The New Jersey Devils have reportedly acquired Jacob Markstrom from the Calgary Flames.
On June 11, TFP reported that the two teams were finalizing the trade before the NHL Draft. Markstrom, 34, agreed to waive his no-movement clause during the season to accept a trade to New Jersey, but the move fell through at that time. He has two years left on his contract with a $6 million cap hit.
Last season, Markstrom played 48 games for the Flames, recording a 23-23-2 record, a 2.78 goals-against average, a .905 save percentage, and two shutouts.
The Flames are rebuilding, so getting future assets was the right move. Now, the Devils have a chance to compete for the Stanley Cup. They plan to make more moves to strengthen their contender status for the 2024-25 season.
TSN's Travis Yost was the first to report the news.
