We have confirmation that Team Canada has officially closed its morning skate today ahead of its highly anticipated Olympic semifinal against Finland.

The development comes after initial comments earlier in the tournament from general manager Doug Armstrong suggesting there would be no more closed practices. However, with a trip to the gold medal game on the line, the strategy has clearly shifted.
Reporter Ryan Rishaug noted that Canada decided to restrict media access to this morning’s session.
“It’s worth noting that Canada has chosen to close its morning skate. These skates are typically reserved for unavailable players and goaltenders, but they also allow injured players to get work in and test their readiness.
Doug Armstrong had previously stated there would be no additional closed practices, but with the stakes rising, limiting information appears to be the priority.”
The decision signals that Team Canada is taking every possible precaution as it prepares to face Finland.
Injury questions add to the secrecy
Several roster situations remain uncertain heading into the semifinal, including the status of Sidney Crosby, Sam Bennett, and Josh Morrissey. By limiting media access, the coaching staff can manage sensitive information and avoid giving Finland any potential strategic advantage.
At this stage of the tournament, every detail matters.
Closing the practice does not automatically signal bad news, but it does reinforce the seriousness of the moment. In high-stakes international play, controlling information can be just as important as controlling possession on the ice.
As of now, there has been no official update on Crosby’s availability. His status may remain unclear until the lineup is formally announced shortly before puck drop.
Team Canada understands the magnitude of this matchup. A win sends them to the gold medal game. A loss ends the journey.
With so much on the line, nothing is being left to chance.
