The Coyotes owner has hinted at a new relocation spot after proposing a new billion-dollar entertainment district.
Meruelo Hints At Relocation
Recently, Coyotes owner Alex Meruelo has proposed an entertainment district in Reno Nevada eluding to a potential Coyotes relocation.
Meruelo and his team ensured that it was not a blatant relocation spot saying it was a spot for the Univerity of Nevada basketball team but they revealed it could be a spot for hockey.
«There is no intention to move the Coyotes to Reno at this point,»
«Obviously, they're an NHL team. They need a much bigger venue. There are a lot of rumors about that. But at this point in time, we're not planning on hockey. But we could do preseason tournaments. We would love to have the Coyotes possibly play the Knights up here in preseason. I think there would be a huge demand for that. It would sell out in a day. But as far as having a team play here, we don't have any plans currently.»

The setup for having a hockey game in any arena is quite expensive and it means that the district would be paying thousands if not millions for the potential of hosting a preseason game or tournament.
While it is not imminent, it is likely a backup plan if the Coyotes cannot find a spot in Arizona and do not want to relocate to a venue where Meruelo would have to sacrifice ownership.
