In a recent development, the NHL has unveiled a significant update regarding the potential relocation of the Arizona Coyotes to a new city as early as next season. According to Frank Seravalli, the league is currently drafting two schedules—one for the team to remain in Arizona and another for a potential move to Salt Lake City.
The news doesn't come as a total surprise, given the ongoing pressure on the Coyotes to secure a new arena for their franchise. Despite recent announcements about plans for a new arena in Phoenix, previous attempts have fallen through, prompting the NHL to explore alternative options.
It's clear the pressure's on the Coyotes to secure a new arena, especially after recent failed attempts. Frank hinted at the possibility of a Plan B for the Coyotes if they lose the arena bid, with Salt Lake City as a potential destination. The contract with Mullet Arena has an option for 26-27 season on it but that can only be used if there's a plan in place for a new arena. If not, Ryan Smith, owner of the Utah Jazz is ready to pounce. He already has put out a survey for name ideas.
