Things are getting pretty messy between the Boston Bruins & Jeremy Swayman as his agent Lewis Gross released a statement today following the shocking comments by Cam Neely about a new offer on the table.
The Bruins held a press conference with all of their top management and revealed shocking new details about the contract negotiations with Swayman. President Cam Neely stated that the Bruins had offered Swayman a $64M contract.
Cam Neely on Jeremy Swayman:
«I have $64 million reasons why I'd be playing right now.»
However, according to Swayman's agent, Lewis Gross, this is the first time either of them had heard about the $64 million figure. Gross responded on Instagram with a statement, saying:
Normally, I do not release statements or discuss negotiations through the media.
However, in this case, I feel I need to defend my client. At today's press conference, $64 million was referenced.
This was the first time that number was discussed in our negotiations. Prior to the press conference, no offer was made reaching that level.
We are extremely disappointed. This was not fair to Jeremy. We will take a few days to discuss where we go from here.
If this is truly the first time Swayman and his agent have heard of the $64 million offer, it appears the Bruins aren't handling things well.
Still, Gross mentioned that he and Swayman will take a few days to decide their next steps, which could be a good sign for the Bruins. It may mean we see Swayman sign sooner rather than later.
Stay tuned for more updates.
