Elliotte Friedman reported today that NHL teams are upset with Gary Bettman after he gave the Buffalo Sabres special treatment.
NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman Upsets Teams By Granting The Buffalo Sabres Special Treatment
The Buffalo Sabres announced they had activated both Jeff Skinner and Jordan Greenway off of IR putting them over the maximum allowed players over 23 players.
Due to Christmas roster rules the Sabres are allowed to have one player over the maximum as long as they are salary cap compliant.
Quirk in Christmas rules...Buffalo can roster 24 (one over the max) since they are under the cap. Makes some teams crazy, because they feel it gives an unfair advantage, but they are not required to make a loan/demotion during Holiday Freeze
The Sabres now will be able to wait on making major roster decisions until after the Christmas break. Many people around the hockey world feel this could create an unfair advantage for the Sabres heading into the break.
