Clifton received a match penalty for the head contact and an additional five-minute penalty for fighting. Following the game, Elliotte Friedman tweeted that Clifton would face a hearing from NHL Player Safety.
"NHL Player Safety just announced a hearing for Clifton. Hischier did not play third period tonight, "precautionary reasons," according to Lindy Ruff"
NHL Player Safety later confirmed this announcement through their own tweet, corroborating Friedman's report.
"Buffalo's Connor Clifton will have a hearing Saturday for an Illegal Check to the Head on New Jersey's Nico Hischier."
Over 100 Family Members Witness Clifton's Ejection
Clifton had invited over 100 of his family members to attend the game that night.
Unfortunately, they didn't get to see him play for very long.
