Jesperi Kotkaniemi's time with the Carolina Hurricanes is likely coming to an end after another disappointing season following his 2021 offer sheet move from the Montreal Canadiens.

Kotkaniemi had a promising start to the season, scoring 13 points in his first 13 games. However, his performance sharply declined, with only 16 points in the following 59 games, leading to an underwhelming overall stat line.

While many speculated that Kotkaniemi might be bought out this offseason, it now appears more likely that he will be traded. The Vancouver Canucks are among the teams reportedly interested in acquiring the 23-year-old forward.

Originally selected third overall in the 2018 NHL Draft, Kotkaniemi was expected to become a star. However, at 23 years old, he has not yet lived up to those expectations.

With six years remaining on his contract, the Canucks would be taking a risk. If Kotkaniemi continues to underperform, a buyout might be considered early in his tenure with Vancouver.
