The Chicago Blackhawks at the 2022 NHL Trade Deadline announced that they would be heading in a new direction and entering a rebuild. We already saw long time Blackhawk Patrick Kane get traded at the 2023 trade deadline and we were expecting to see Toews traded as well.

But due to his health concerns, Toews decided it was best that the Hawks don't trade him incase he was too unwell to play for the new team.
Yesterday the Blackhawks officially announced that despite Toews not being traded, they will not be re-signing him next season.
Toews has been the Blackhawks captain for almost two decades, he helped the team win 3 Stanley Cups in 6 years, and put the Blackhawks back on the map. It seems almost disrespectful to not bring him back if he wanted to remain with the Hawks.
Patrick Kane was asked his thoughts on Toews being let go, which he said:
"He's a legend. I mean, he turned that franchise around. It's pretty impressive what he's done with his career, but just for that city ... Great with the fans, great with the people. He was a guy that led our team so he's a legend."

One of the best duo's in league history is Toews & Kane, who knows, with both being UFA's at the end of the playoffs, maybe we see them reunited on another NHL team.
Seeing Toews in another jersey will not look right.
