This summer the Oilers aimed to bolster their lineup for another push towards the Cup Finals. However, their offseason plans took a hit when they lost out on offer sheet bids for Philip Broberg and Dylan Holloway.
In response, the Oilers have been working to rebuild their depth. They kicked things off by trading for Vasily Podkolzin and Ty Emberson. Now they seem to be targeting a bigger upgrade & one that can play significant minutes on defence.
According to insider Greg Wyshynski the Oilers are exploring a potential trade for Chicago Blackhawks veteran defenseman Seth Jones.
The Blackhawks are focusing on rebuilding with their young core & Jones is expected to be a key veteran presence. He has consistently delivered by scoring around 30 points in each of the last five seasons. His best season came in 2021 when he scored 51 points in 78 games.
If Chicago is willing to move Jones the Oilers have the assets to make it happen. With Connor McDavid &Leon Draisaitl in their prime, Edmonton is under pressure to make a big move & acquiring Jones could be the boost they need. If this deal is on the table the Oilers should really go for it.
