In recent years, the National Hockey League (NHL) has introduced a new trend of including conditions in trades, which has added an extra layer of excitement for fans and teams alike. While this concept has been around for a while, it has gained more popularity in recent years, with teams getting more creative in what they offer as conditions.

These types of conditions are becoming increasingly common in NHL trades, and they add an extra layer of complexity to negotiations. Teams must consider various scenarios and potential outcomes before finalizing a deal, and fans eagerly await to see how these conditions will play out in the future
The trade deadline is always a highly anticipated time for NHL fans, with teams frantically making moves to improve their rosters for the playoffs. This year's deadline saw a flurry of activity leading up to the day itself, with only a few significant deals completed on the deadline day. One of the most notable trades involved the Los Angeles Kings, who sent their franchise goaltender, Jonathan Quick, to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for Jonas Korpisalo and Vladislav Gavrikov.
What made this trade even more interesting was the inclusion of a conditional first-round pick, along with a third-round pick, from the Blue Jackets. Essentially, this means that the Blue Jackets will only receive the first-round pick if certain conditions are met, which in this scenario was the LA Kings making it to the playoffs.
If the Kings do not qualify for the 2023 playoffs, CBJ will instead receive: 2023 2nd round pick and 2024 2nd round pick
