Columbus Blue Jackets GM Don Waddell made a major announcement about a potential Patrik Laine trade in the coming days.
Laine has requested a trade from the Blue Jackets, and despite not being traded yet, Waddell confirmed they are still planning to trade him soon.
Waddell explained that there has been significant interest from other teams, which is why it's taking time to find the right deal.
«There really aren't a lot of free agents. If some teams have the cap space today, they'll probably still have it tomorrow. I know there are teams that are still interested!»
Laine is currently participating in the NHL's player assistance program, which prevents him from speaking directly to teams, potentially slowing down the trade process. However, Waddell mentioned that Laine could be out of the program "any day now."

Several reliable sources have confirmed that the Montreal Canadiens are actively trying to acquire Laine and have the necessary cap space to do so. It should only be a matter of weeks before a deal is finalized.
