The well-known site, The Hockey News, is facing significant criticism following Johnny Gaudreau's passing.
Given the recent and tragic death of brothers Matthew and Johnny Gaudreau, many feel that it was too soon to discuss trade opportunities. While the intention was likely not harmful, fans were understandably disappointed.
In light of Johnny Gaudreau's death, the Columbus Blue Jackets now face the challenge of meeting the NHL salary cap floor. The Hockey News suggested that the Montreal Canadiens might step in to help:
«If the Columbus Blue Jackets need help reaching the salary cap floor, Kent Hughes and the Montreal Canadiens could be in a position to assist them.»
«While the hockey world is still reeling from the tragic death of Johnny Gaudreau and his brother Matthew, the show must go on for the Blue Jackets, who find themselves in a delicate situation concerning the salary floor.»
Although it is hard not to sympathize with the Jackets, who are in such a situation because of a tragedy, Kent Hughes won't assist them just for the sake of helping and will need some kind of return to part with one or the other asset.»

Some feel it's too soon to discuss such proposals. Instead, they believe the best solution would be for Gary Bettman to grant the Blue Jackets special permission following Johnny Gaudreau's passing.
Our thoughts go out to the Gaudreau family, their loved ones, and the entire Columbus Blue Jackets organization during this difficult time.
