During Wednesday's practice, frustration boiled over for the Detroit Red Wings as footage of teammates Ben Chiarot and Lucas Raymond engaging in a fight went viral.
This frustration comes on the heels of a 7-3 loss to the Buffalo Sabres, extending the Red Wings losing streak to six games and knocking them out of playoff contention.
Chiarot and Raymond were separated by their teammates after the altercation, exchanged words, and then resumed practice.
Patrick Kane Sounds Off On The Fight That Broke Out
Star forward Patrick Kane addressed the incident, stating that he doesn't view it as entirely negative. He believes that frustration can fuel positive energy if channeled correctly, whether it's through intense practice or playing harder in upcoming games.
«I don't think it's a bad thing,» Kane said. «I'd be more worried if we were walking around here all smiles, happy and everything's okay. I think it's good to get a little frustrated as long as you harness it in the right way.
«Frustration can create a lot of positive energy as well, whether it's practicicing like you play, or just playing harder tomorrow.»
With time running out in the season, the Red Wings have 17 games left to try to secure a playoff spot. Both Chiarot and Raymond will need to elevate their performance, as Raymond has only contributed a goal and an assist with a minus-10 rating during the losing streak, while Chiarot's ice time has decreased, and he's also posted a minus-10 rating.
The upcoming games are critical for the Red Wings, and hopefully, they can turn their frustration into positive results on the ice.
