The Edmonton Oilers' captain is currently in hot water for a serie of Instagram posts, for which he's accused of not declaring a sponsorship while promoting a brand.

McDavid in Legal Trouble? Major Allegations Against Him

According to the Federal Trade Commission Act, McDavid could be breaking the law.
Celebrities using social medias to promote brands and earn money from it must absolutely declare the partnership.
Here's the official explanation:
In short, it all goes back to consumer transparency. Consumers have a right to know in an era of digital promotion what is «organic» and promoted because someone genuinely believes in something, or if they are reviewing, sharing, and promoting because they are incentivized to do so. And moreover, it is illegal not to disclose. That's right, it is not just unethical to improperly disclose. It breaks the Federal Trade Commission Act Endorsement Guidelines. Let's be perfectly clear: improper disclosure in influencer advertising and sponsored content is a crime

In a few post on Instagram, McDavid clearly promotes the brand Alo Wellness..

Incoming Consequences for McDavid?

One angry fan on X shared that he believes the Oilers' captain should be arrested:
need him arrested for undisclosed sponsorship posthaste though
However, that seems a bit harsh.
It's more probable that he'll be fined, if charges are made against him.
Let's not forget there's the possibility that McDavid just likes that brand and isn't affiliated with it. In that case, what he did is perfectly legal.
Do you think McDavid is guilty?
