The veteran goaltender was waived by the Oilers earlier this week for the purpose of being sent to the AHL. Unsurprisingly, no team wanted to take on his massive contract so he cleared waivers. Now he's spoken about how he feels in this situation.
We will file this one under the obvious statements category, Jack. Through five appearances this year, Campbell has a 1-4 record, an .873 save percentage, and a 4.50 goals-against-average. Even by 80s standards those numbers are not great. For reference, his 4.50 goals-against-average would have him tied for 34th in the league if this was the 1985-86 season. That is a rough stat.
Among the names that have been thrown out there are Jordan Binnington, Jeremy Swayman, Jusse Saros, and Jake Allen. The Oilers have likely explored other options as well but these are the names that keep popping up. The Oilers play their next game tomorrow night against a mediocre Seattle Kraken team. It will be interesting to see who gets the start in net. Right now the options are Stuart Skinner and Calvin Pickard. Neither one is particularly promising.
