In a surprising statement, hockey icon Sidney Crosby has shared his belief that Connor McDavid is set to break a major point record that has stood untouched since 1989.
Crosby's Optimistic View on McDavid's Scoring
Last season, Connor McDavid amazed the hockey world by racking up over 150 points, something no one had done since 1996. While many thought McDavid had reached his peak, Sidney Crosby sees it differently. Crosby recently said he thinks McDavid can do even better than his 150-point season.
"I mean, I didn't think 150 was going to be in the cards for him but he found a way to get there," Crosby said. "So, I don't think anything is out of the question for him as far as numbers are concerned."
"He just finds a way to find another level time and time again, so I would never bet against him."
The Big Goal: McDavid Aiming for 170 Points
Scoring in the NHL is getting tougher with faster gameplay and higher skill levels. For most players, reaching 100 points is a big deal. However, Connor McDavid is looking to redefine what's possible.
If McDavid can reach 170 points in a single season, averaging just over 2 points per game in all 82 games, he'll be in rare company. The last player to score over 170 points was Mario Lemieux in 1988-89 when he got an incredible 199 points. If McDavid can top this, he'll break a record that has held for 35 years, cementing his name in hockey history.
