The Edmonton Oilers defenceman Evan Bouchard won't see a contract extension this summer, shifting the team's focus to other priorities like signing Leon Draisaitl and finding a new General Manager.

Daniel Nugent-Brown of The Athletic shared some super disappointing news today and I don't think any Oilers fans were happy to hear this. the Edmonton Oilers are likely not going to discuss a contract extension with Evan Bouchard. Bouchard is going to become a restricted free agent in 2025.
The Oilers are reportedly focusing all their power on finding a way to somehow re-sign Leon Draisaitl and get a contract extension for McDavid, which is why they have put Bouchard on the side for now.
"I'm told it's unlikely the Oilers & Evan Bouchard (RFA: 2025 w/ arb rights; UFA: 2027) will discuss an extension this summer.

EDM — More pressing things to address (GM, Draisaitl, McDavid).

Bouchard — High likelihood of building off Norris 5th place & starring in the playoffs."

Bouchard was an absolute unit for the Oilers while they were facing off against the Panthers. He is one of the main reasons they had such a huge comeback.
Bouchard is a standout player right now, and the Oilers should be making him one of their priorities. While signing Draisaitl and finding a new GM are super important, Bouchard's talent is simply undeniable.
