Former NHL referee Tim Peel heavily criticized Oilers goalie Stuart Skinner, as Edmonton is now just one game away from being swept out of the Stanley Cup Finals.
Peel, known for sharing his opinions on NHL topics on social media, has struck again. With the Stanley Cup Finals possibly ending tonight if the Panthers sweep the Oilers, Peel pointed out that Edmonton hasn't been able to win partly due to Skinner's underwhelming performances.
In game three, the Oilers limited the Panthers to 19 shots on Skinner (23 according to NHL.com), but the goalie still allowed four goals, which Peel noted is not acceptable at this stage:
"I'm not blaming Stuart Skinner but this is the Stanley Cup Final. 4 goals on 19 shots is not good enough!"
Peel also expressed disappointment in the Finals and questioned whether the Dallas Stars would have posed a better challenge:
"Looks like that delayed flight really hurt the #TimeToHunt. Must have been rough being delayed eating shrimp and steak with a glass of 🍷. What a disappointing SCFinal! Would #TexasHockey have given the Cats a better challenge? This is a team that could quite easily repeat next year! #LetsGoOilers"
Peel believes the Oilers are outmatched by Sergei Bobrovsky's hot goaltending, and Skinner can't compete at his level. When a fan argued that the Final isn't over yet, Peel simply replied:
"Yeah they are!"
Peel, like many fans, thinks the Panthers will win tonight and end the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
