After nearly 20 years of waiting to win the Stanley Cup, Kyle Okposo won't get his day with the trophy due to a heartbreaking announcement from Matthew Tkachuk.

Throughout his career with the New York Islanders and Buffalo Sabres, Okposo never made it far in the Stanley Cup playoffs. That changed in the 2023-24 season when he was traded to the Florida Panthers and played a key role in their first Stanley Cup win.
However, Okposo's long-awaited day with the Stanley Cup was canceled due to a global IT outage affecting airlines, which delayed the Cup's arrival from St. Louis, where it was last with Matthew Tkachuk.
MAJOR ANNOUNCEMENT especially if you're driving from a long distance for Kyle Okposo's public Stanley Cup appearance today at Pagel Arena.

It has to be CANCELLED due to the Stanley Cup being stuck in St. Louis because of the global IT outage affecting airlines.

«I'm crushed,» a very disappointed Okposo tells me.
This day was incredibly important to Okposo, and there's hope that the Panthers will reschedule another day for him. However, the busy off-season schedule makes it uncertain. Despite the disappointment, Okposo's name is forever on the Stanley Cup, securing his place in NHL history.
