Sportsnet reporter Eric Engels recently revealed that he believes the Montreal Canadiens will make a trade at the NHL draft this summer.
The Canadiens currently hold the 5th overall pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft. Last year, they picked defenseman David Reinbacher at the same spot. This year, the team might trade the pick to either move up or down in the draft.
«I'm expecting something»
@EricEngels joins @tonymarinaro to discuss the #Habs potentially moving up, or even moving down in this year's NHL draft
There is speculation that the Canadiens are interested in Russian forward Ivan Demidov and might trade down if he is not available at the 5th pick. Last year, many teams were interested in Montreal's 5th overall pick, hoping to select David Reinbacher. According to Engels, even the Philadelphia Flyers, who ended up picking Matvei Michkov, wanted to trade for that pick.
I know that many teams were interested in the fifth pick that the Canadiens held last year. In fact, a number of teams wanted to acquire that pick to select David Reinbacher.
This also includes the team [Philadelphia Flyers] - from what I could gather and speaking with several sources in the league afterward - which ended up choosing Matvei Michkov, was one of the teams that were really interested in getting David Reinbacher.
