NHL insider Pierre LeBrun recently shared that Canadiens GM Kent Hughes has been actively making calls & defenseman Arber Xhekaj could be traded soon.
Fans, analysts & journalists are frustrated with the Montreal Canadiens slow start this season. Expectations were higher with Kent Hughes & Jeff Gorton predicting a competitive year. However with a disappointing 2-4-1 record the Habs are at the bottom of the Atlantic Division & fans are getting restless.

The team's struggles signal that changes are needed. One player frequently mentioned in trade rumors is Arber Xhekaj who is known for his physical play & toughness on defense. Although he's become a fan favorite trading Xhekaj might be what the Canadiens need to improve their lineup. A trade could bring in a skilled forward or much needed scoring depth which the team currently lacks.
-
As head coach Martin St-Louis continues to tweak the lines for better chemistry GM Kent Hughes is actively exploring external solutions.
-
While trades are rare early in the season LeBrun notes that Hughes has been making multiple calls signaling the Canadiens want to be proactive before things get worse.
-
Hughes is looking for a trade that helps the team now without hurting their long term rebuild or salary cap flexibility. While nothing is imminent the situation is evolving & Xhekaj's name will likely continue to be mentioned in trade discussions. If Hughes finds the right deal it could be a turning point for the Canadiens this season.
