David Savard is officially bored of retirement. The former Canadiens anchor just dropped a massive hint that he wants to return to the NHL.
During a recent interview on TVA Sports, the veteran completely shocked the Montreal Canadiens' fanbase, as he openly admitted he is desperate for a phone call from the Canadiens' front office.
"I would definitely like to get a call," he directly told Jean-Charles Lajoie on live television. He wants to bring all his experience from his time in Montreal to the younger roster and give them the best chance possible in the upcoming playoffs.
"He is increasingly unable to hide his desire to return to the Canadiens."
However, Savard walked away last April because his physical body was completely failing him under the pressure, so without a doubt, he'll have to return to the bench or at least somewhere in a management role.
Harsh reality check hit David Savard as he looks to make NHL return
During the veteran's time in the NHL, he totalled a ridiculous 1,624 blocked shots over 870-NHL game career. You don't just magically erase that heavy mileage by resting on a couch for nine months.
Montreal is pushing incredibly hard in the highly competitive Eastern Conference right now. They need absolute speed and fresh legs to survive the brutal grind.
They absolutely don't need a 35-year-old, veteran desperately chasing one last ride.
Sure, the romantic idea of Savard riding to the rescue sounds great, but this is the real question, will he be able to keep up?
General Manager Kent Hughes already has his hands full managing the young kids on the chaotic blue line, so maybe some help on the back end could be of use.
As of now nothing is final, and the talks are real. However, only time will tell what actually happens with the veteran.
