Nashville Predators Barry Trotz's inexperience as a GM might be showing with the recent trade request of top goaltending prospect Yaroslav Askarov.
The expectation is for Askarov to report to training camp in September, despite reports saying he's requested a trade.
Trotz dismissed his request saying he expects him to report on day 1 and doesn't feel pressed by the netminder's trade demands.
We are aware of the report today and our expectation is for the player to report to training camp and compete for a job in September.
Trotz likely saw the trade request coming as soon as he signed Juuse Saros to that 8-year deal. It appears Trotz wants to handle Askarov on a year-by-year basis instead of making any long-term commitments one way or another even though the two reportedly clash on a personal level.
Drafted 11th overall in 2020, Askarov made his NHL debut last season and has primarily played with the Admirals but he's shown he can be a NHL backup now.
With Juuse Saros locked in for eight years, and the signing of Scott Wedgewood, the Predators now face a dilemma with Askarov's future. Let's see how they decide to handle their disgruntled prospect.
