The New Jersey Devils receive bad news on Luke Hughes' injury as training camp approaches.
The Devils have announced that defenseman Luke Hughes suffered a shoulder injury during training, sidelining him for the team's training camp, exhibition games, and possibly the first six weeks of the regular season.
Hughes, 21, had a standout rookie season last year, scoring nine goals and 47 points in 82 games. He quickly became the Devils' most reliable defenseman, making this injury a significant setback for the team. After missing the playoffs last season, the Devils made big changes, including hiring coach Sheldon Keefe and acquiring goalie Jacob Markstrom, to make a push for the Stanley Cup. Now, they'll have to manage without Hughes for up to two months, which could impact their early season performance.
