NHL insider Kevin Weekes revealed that the New Jersey Devils are close to announcing their next head coach, with Sheldon Keefe being the likely candidate.
The Devils, like many NHL teams, are in search of a new head coach. Craig Berube, a top free agent, was quickly hired by the Toronto Maple Leafs after they fired their previous head coach, Sheldon Keefe. Now, Keefe appears to be moving on to the Devils.

According to Weekes, the Devils are deep into their selection process but haven't finalized their decision yet. Devils reporter Alex Chauvancy believes the team is close to signing Keefe, noting that discussions have been ongoing for several days. He expects an announcement within the next day or two.

Keefe has a strong regular-season record from his time with the Maple Leafs, consistently making the playoffs. However, his teams often exited in the first round, winning only one playoff series. Whether this trend continues with the Devils remains to be seen, but the team is expected to be playoff contenders next season if they stay healthy.
