The New York Islanders have struggled in recent years, and now GM Lou Lamoriello has indicated that the team is likely to part ways with two veteran players, Matt Martin and Cal Clutterbuck.

Lou Lamoriello has faced criticism as the Islanders' General Manager, but he remains committed to pushing for the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a strong core group. Despite the team's recent disappointments, Lamoriello revealed in a recent interview that they are planning to move on from Martin and Clutterbuck.
«We'll probably be moving on,» Lamoriello told The Post. «That isn't saying things can't change. We're talking about two veterans, two quality individuals. Two team leaders and two real good hockey players, so we'll have to see how things come about. But we haven't changed our thought process today any different than the last time we spoke.»
Matt Martin, a 35-year-old forward, has spent 13 of his 15 NHL seasons with the Islanders. Known for his physical play, Martin has only surpassed 15 points in a season twice during his time with the team. Cal Clutterbuck, who has been with the Islanders for the past 11 seasons, hasn't scored more than 20 points in a season since 2018. This suggests that the team might be shifting its playing style moving forward.
Lamoriello didn't provide details on who might replace Martin and Clutterbuck or when more information will be available about their futures. However, it seems the Islanders are preparing to move on from two long-time leaders, making room for younger talent on the roster.
