Two years ago, the Ottawa Senators signed Giroux as a free agent, expecting him to help lead the team out of their rebuild alongside
Brady Tkachuk,
Tim Stutzle, and big trade acquisition
Jakob Chychrun. Unfortunately, the team has continued to struggle near the bottom of the Atlantic Division, despite Giroux's solid performances, posting 79 and 64 points in back-to-back seasons while playing all 82 games each year.
Recently, The Hockey News identified Giroux as one of the top trade candidates ahead of the 2025 season, especially if the Senators struggle early on.
With the addition of Ullmark, Ottawa looks more competitive, but playing in a tough division with Tampa Bay, Florida, Toronto, Boston, Detroit, Montreal, and Buffalo makes a playoff spot challenging. At 36, Giroux may prefer to stay with his hometown team, but if he's aiming for a Stanley Cup, expect significant interest in him leading up to the 2025 trade deadline.
