The New York Rangers have several prospects on the cusp of making the NHL roster out of training camp, and on Tuesday, one of them stepped up and made a massive impact in trying to do so.
After Kaapo Kakko was hit with a cheap shot earlier in the game, young Brennan Othmann, who the Rangers drafted No. 16 overall back in the 2021 NHL Draft took revenge into his own hands.
Standing at 6-foot-0 weighing 180 pounds, Othmann has become known as someone who can use all of his body weight on the ice, and in the game against the New York Islanders, he proved just that.
Over the past three seasons in the OHL, Othmann has tallied 164 points in 132 games of action, so if he can not only bring that physicality but the scoring ability to the NHL, he's got a chance to be a superstar in New York.
While he was ultimately given a penalty for the hit, standing up for his teammates in such a way will endear him to the team, and if they can replace the physicality they lost when they traded Ryan Reaves with a talent like Othmann, that will be a massive bonus.
