The Buffalo Sabres and New York Rangers were close to a deal involving Kaapo Kakko and captain Jacob Trouba, but things didn't quite go as planned.
The talks fell apart when Trouba waived his no-trade clause as he also did when he was about to get traded to the Detroit Red Wings.
#Sabres and #NYR had actually worked up a deal for Kaapo Kakko and Jacob Trouba before everything went south. Was looking like the Rangers were going to clear some significant space.

Despite failing twice, Rangers GM Chris Drury is continuing talks. It's possible the Rangers could potentially move him and his $8.5 million cap hit to the quickly to teams like the Philadelphia Flyers or San Jose Sharks.
#NYR would be able to move Trouba almost instantly if he waived his NMC to #Sabres, #LGRW, and #FlyTogether. As of now its looking like a buyout, 3rd line pairing is the most likely option.
I would keep an eye on #Sharks too if that NMC gets waived.

Yet right now, spot on the team's third pairing with Zac Jones seems like the outcome and he will be in a Blueshirts sweater on opening night.
