The Ottawa Senators are finally starting to finish their rebuild so they should be competing for a playoff spot as soon as this year. However, if the team is not careful, they may run the risk of alienating their young talent with low-ball contract offers.
The Senators are supposedly quite high on one of their younger forwards, Shane Pinto. While they still like him though, it seems like they don't want to pay him what he's worth. According to NHL Insider Elliotte Friedman, the team's most recent offer to Pinto was quite insulting.
According to Friedman, Pinto and his agent are looking for a contract in the 2.5 million dollar range, but he did not specify if term was an issue as well. Pinto has played 99 career NHL games, putting up 21 goals and 43 points. Notably, the Senators recently agreed to terms with defenseman Jake Sanderson on an eight-year $64.4 million dollar contract. Sanderson has played just 77 NHL games and has scored 32 points.
