Sidney Crosby's future with the Pittsburgh Penguins has been a hot topic all summer, and his latest post has left fans deeply disappointed.

Crosby's contract and future have been major talking points in Pittsburgh. After 20 seasons with the Penguins, the team's captain remains one of the best players in the world. As he heads into the final season of his current deal, Crosby could become an unrestricted free agent in the summer of 2025. However, both parties are reportedly looking to secure a new deal before then. Penguins reporter Mark Madden revealed that an extension might be announced on Crosby's 37th birthday.
Crosby's birthday is significant because the numbers 8/7 hold special meaning for him: his jersey number is 87, his birthday is August 7th, and the cap hit on his latest contract is also $8.7 million. Fans hoped that the Penguins would announce a contract extension on this meaningful date.
However, when Crosby's birthday arrived, the Penguins' social media team posted a simple birthday message instead of the anticipated contract news, leaving fans disappointed.
Training camp is still weeks away, and after Crosby's incredible 42 goals and 94 points last season, he remains an elite player that the Penguins want to keep. While the anticipated extension announcement didn't happen on his birthday, fans can still expect a deal to be finalized soon.
