Sidney Crosby, the captain and star forward of the Pittsburgh Penguins, just witnessed one of the most significant trades of this year's deadline. On Thursday, forward Jake Guentzel was traded to the Carolina Hurricanes. In return, the Penguins received forward Michael Bunting, prospects Ville Koivunen, Vasili Ponomarev, and Cruz Lucius, along with conditional first- and fifth-round picks in the upcoming draft.
This trade occurred shortly after the Penguins crushing loss to the Washington Capitals. When questioned about the trade, Crosby, visibly upset, deferred to management when asked about the message conveyed to the team.
Reports had suggested Crosby's dissatisfaction with the possibility of Guentzel's departure, and unfortunately, it materialized. More moves are expected as the Penguins strive to meet salary cap requirements before the deadline at 3 PM ET today.
