The Maple Leafs have solidified their offense with Auston Matthews and several new acquisitions. However, during this pre-season, there's still potential for emerging players to break into the primary lineup.

Rising Stars in the Making

Matthew Knies and Fraser Minten have made impressive strides in the pre-season, positioning themselves for more playing time with Toronto. Conversely, Nick Robertson hasn't been so fortunate.

Once seen as Toronto's brightest prospect, Robertson has faced health challenges. This summer was perceived as his chance to cement a significant position in the team's top-nine.

Unmet Expectations

Yet, Robertson's anticipated rise hasn't materialized. Now, prominent NHL analyst Elliotte Friedman suggests that trading the young talent might be on the table.

Elliotte Friedman on 32TP: «The one thing I wonder about here is Robertson. If he doesn't make the team, I'm wondering if they're just going to have to find somewhere else to give him a fresh start, because I think Gregor is gonna get signed."

The potential of Noah Gregor securing a contract with the Leafs post his PTO further tightens the slots. If the team remains unconvinced about Robertson's fit, trading might be the next logical move. Watch this space for updates.
