The injury bug continues for the Toronto Maple Leafs as William Nylander is absent from practice on Tuesday. The good news is that John Tavares and Joseph Woll have returned but all eyes are on the health of Nylander ahead of Wednesday night's game against the Los Angeles Kings.
Goaltender Joseph Woll skated before the Maple Leafs practice after being placed on injured reserve just before the season started.
Woll, 26, also skated on Monday but didn't stay for practice on either day. He missed the first three games of the season but can return once his injury heals. Last year, he played 25 games, finishing with a 12-11-1 record, a 2.95 goals-against average, and a .907 save percentage. He also appeared in three playoff games, winning two, before an injury kept him out of Game 7 in the first-round series against the Boston Bruins.
Forward William Nylander missed Tuesday's practice due to illness. Nylander was the star of Saturday's 4-2 win over the Pittsburgh Penguins, scoring two goals on four shots with over 20 minutes of ice time. He had a career-high 40 goals and 98 points last season and signed an eight-year, $92 million contract last January to stay in Toronto.
John Tavares returned to practice on Tuesday after missing Saturday's game with an illness. The 34-year-old center scored a goal in the Leafs' win over the New Jersey Devils before being sidelined. Last season, Tavares recorded 29 goals and 65 points in 80 games.
At practice, Nicholas Robertson and Pontus Holmberg played on the second line with Tavares, while Max Domi centered the third line with Bobby McMann and Max Pacioretty.
