Newly appointed Toronto Maple Leafs captain Auston Matthews recently called out teammate Matthew Knies for lying to the media.
Earlier this summer, Matthews was named the Leafs' captain, and fans have gotten glimpses of his leadership style. However, his recent comments about Knies during training camp caught many by surprise.
When asked about Knies' claim that he beat Matthews in tennis, the captain was quick to clarify that Knies had lied, expressing his surprise at the comment.
Though it's still early in training camp, the atmosphere around the team feels relaxed, but there's a clear sense of purpose. Everyone knows there's work to be done before the 2024-2025 season begins.
While the exact line combinations are still uncertain, it's refreshing to see the team in sync. However, the Maple Leafs remain under intense scrutiny, and anything less than winning the Stanley Cup will be seen as a major disappointment.
