On Tuesday, the Buffalo Sabres re-signed forward Peyton Krebs to a two-year contract worth $2.9 million. Krebs had been holding out all offseason after rejecting his June qualifying offer, making him a restricted free agent (RFA).
The signing puts an end to months of speculation about his future, with many believing he might leave the team despite his desire to stay in Buffalo.
Insider Elliotte Friedman revealed on his 32 Thoughts Podcast today that a trade was imminent for Peyton Krebs and the Sabres.
Peyton Krebs, 23, scored four goals and 17 points over 80 games last season.
He joined the Sabres in November 2021 as part of the trade that sent Jack Eichel to the Vegas Golden Knights, with Krebs, Alex Tuch, and two draft picks heading to Buffalo.
Krebs just completed the final year of his three-year entry-level contract, signed in November 2019. Drafted 17th overall by the Golden Knights in 2019, he has 20 goals and 66 points in 215 career games split between Vegas and Buffalo.
The Calgary native helped Team Canada win gold at the 2023 World Championship, contributing a goal and five points. He also earned a silver medal at the 2021 World Juniors, tallying three goals and eight points.
In the end, keeping Krebs was the right move for the Sabres, boosting their chances of success as they head into the new season.
