The Toronto Maple Leafs have made some surprising lineup adjustments ahead of their game against the undefeated 8-0-0 Winnipeg Jets including the news that Nick Robertson will sit out as a healthy scratch for the first time this season.
Announced by Craig Berube this decision likely stems from Robertson's limited offensive output with just one goal in his nine appearances. Pontus Holmberg will step into Robertson's spot looking to make an impact.
During the morning practice the Leafs focused on fine tuning their lines. The top line of Matthew Knies, Auston Matthews & Mitch Marner remains strong as they've been crucial to Toronto's success. The second line featuring Max Pacioretty alongside John Tavares & William Nylander adds both experience & scoring power. The third line includes Jared McCann, Max Domi & Pontus Holmberg while the fourth line with Steven Lorentz, David Kämpf & Ryan Reaves rounds out the lineup with grit & defensive strength.
Defensively the Leafs paired Jake McCabe with Chris Tanev &Morgan Rielly with Oliver Ekman-Larsson while Connor Timmins & Simon Benoit form the final pair. Joseph Woll & Anthony Stolarz shared time in net during practice and we now have confirmation that Stolarz will start against the Jets tonight.
The Leafs hope these lineup changes will boost their offense & improve their special teams giving them the edge needed to take on the Jets perfect record. Tonight's game will reveal whether these adjustments provide Toronto with the spark they need.
