Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Matt Murray appeared in practice with the team today as he continues to rehab following offseason surgery. Today marked the first time he participated in practice with the team in a limited capacity.

Murray continues to work towards NHL return

The Maple Leafs goalie had surgery in September of 2023, sidelining him from the 2023-24 season to this point. This was a major procedure that had the potential to keep him out for the entire season. Murray was originally given a six to eight month recovery timeframe, making a return before the end of the regular season possible. It seems like that might still be the case as he is starting to practice with the Leafs in a meaningful way.

Murray last played in the NHL last season when he appeared in 26 games with the Leafs, posting a 14-8-2 record along with a .903 save percentage. Clearly, he was not in peak form as he battled injuries all season, ultimately culminating in the offseason surgery. His last game came on April 2nd last year when he faced just seven shots before leaving the game. Hopefully this latest development means he can get his career back on track, potentially even returning to play for the Leafs in the playoffs should they need him.
