Clayton Keller and Andre Tourigny have Utah in the playoffs, but a fan-found shirt typo just hijacked the Mammoth’s big week.
The post came from MacklinMuse on Saturday, April 19, and the punch line landed fast: “There are FOUR letters in Utah.” The photo showed a shirt with “Utahh” across the chest.
That’s the kind of mistake fans spot in 2 seconds and never let go. Right as Utah gets set for its first playoff run under the Mammoth name, the typo turned official-looking gear into instant meme material.
It also hit a sore spot because this brand was built to look sharp from day 1. Utah’s name rollout followed 4 rounds of voting and drew more than 850,000 fan ballots.
The photo is brutal on the eye test. The extra “h” jumps out before the logo, before the colorway, before anything else, which is exactly why this post spread so quickly.
And timing is everything here. Utah clinched its playoff berth last week, with single-game first-round tickets already pushed to fans as the city leaned into the moment.
Instead, part of the conversation swung from line matchups and puck drop buzz to whether a major merch partner really missed a 4-letter state name.
A bad look by Fanatics just before the first Utah Mammoth playoff game
That’s what makes this more than a cheap laugh. A first playoff appearance is supposed to be a clean runway for the brand, the building, and the fan base.
Tourigny’s club earned a real hockey spotlight. Utah reached the field in just its second season in Salt Lake City, and that should have been the full story.
Keller, the captain and face of the room, has helped give this market a team worth buying into. That’s why sloppy gear lands harder than it should.
Fans can laugh at it, and they will. But they’re also right to expect better when playoff merch starts flying off shelves.
Utah has worked too hard to make Mammoth feel major league for the week to be remembered for an extra letter.
